Professional Development Supervisor – Police
Fulltime Position
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervisor from the Professional Development Manager, coordinates the training and
professional development for newly hired dispatcher trainees and current emergency dispatchers.
Conducts quality assessments to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists the Professional Development Manager in organizing, directing, and monitoring the training and
personnel development program for CU911. Provides supervision and direction as it related to the new
employee training and ongoing training for current emergency dispatchers.
Provides feedback to emergency dispatchers and shift supervisors to identify areas for performance
improvement.
Helps maintain records regarding training and performance compliance.
Documents compliance for shift supervisors to use in employee performance reviews.
May assist or coordinate quarterly in-service trainings.
Helps to develop, provide, or implement training tools and resources for emergency dispatcher
performance improvement.
Attends training, meetings, and briefings for protocol or operations systems and provides updates and
training to shift supervisors and emergency dispatchers when changes or updates are made.
Provides evaluations on a random basis to measure policy and protocol compliance by emergency
dispatchers.
Participates in the selection process for new hires as requested and makes recommendations on the
employment status of employees under their supervision.
Monitors and evaluates the performance of emergency dispatchers through quality improvement
processes and reviews. Counsels and evaluate employees to help reach and maintain acceptable
productivity and performance levels.
Identifies, documents, and implements solutions regarding disciplinary related situations, initiates
corrective or disciplinary actions and conducts investigations into an emergency dispatcher’s performance
using established policies, procedures, and protocols.
Attends all supervisory and other assigned meetings and takes part in the discussions and decisionmaking processes.
May fulfill shifts as a shift supervisor and will perform all requirements of the shift supervisor position
when in that role.
As duties permit, work a minimum of six hours a week covering shortages on the dispatch floor.
Follows policies, procedures, guidelines, and instructions as provided by CU911.
Uses appropriate interpersonal skills in communicating and interacting with the public, co-workers, other
supervisors, managers, and others in the performance of the job duties.
Maintains confidentiality with information obtained through employment. Issues discussed in relation to
employment, personnel matters and investigations are to be held in strict confidence and not divulged
without management permission.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of dispatching procedures and requirements. Working knowledge of general
supervision methods. Skill in typing and operating software and equipment. Ability to maintain
cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; coordinate
multiple tasks efficiently and handle stress associated with deadlines and frequent interruptions. Ability to
solve and make quick decisions, act calmly in emergency situations and provide supervision. Ability to
instruct others in the essential functions of the job, utilizing approved instructional techniques.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly sits at a desk, stands or stoops, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and
works for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail. Occasionally lifts,
carries, pushes, pulls, or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and drives a motor vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office or other environmentally controlled room. Work exposes the incumbent
to highly stressful situations including life or death decisions involving the safety of officers, fire and
EMS personnel, and the general public. Incumbent is often required to relay negative information
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Equivalent to a high school diploma, plus (7) years of dispatch experience and at least three of those years
as a Senior Dispatcher (or equivalent if hired from another agency) Selected applicants are subject to, and
must pass, an extensive background check if not already an employee of Central Utah 911.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
Must possess and maintain all District required certifications, to include the following: Utah POST
Dispatcher certification, National Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatching, Utah Bureau of EMS
Emergency Medical Dispatching, Certified Training Officer, and CPR. Incumbent must possess a current
driver’s license and obtain a valid State of Utah driver’s license within 60 days of employment.
Successful completion of an approved Supervisor program within one year of advancement to Dispatch
Supervisor.
